We then start describing the interactions between cells of the immune system that are associated with producing different kinds of immune responses and the regulatory molecules that are involved in each case and their influence in the eventual outcome. At the beginning of the course, there is some emphasis on the molecular basis of the immune response and the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms that are involved in the normal functioning of the immune system. We first go into some detail describing the basic components and functions of the different cells and tissues that comprise the human immune system and later review how to apply these concepts to disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. This course includes a detailed description of the human immune system and the mechanisms of immunity. ![]() MMI 188B: Human Immunology with Discussion (4) - Fall This course helps students understand the human immune system, the nomenclature and functional significance of the tissues, cells, proteins, and genes, as well as the normal regulatory mechanisms and pathologic outcomes related to the immune response. Coronaviruses and the current pandemic will be covered. The course is intended for students that plan to continue to medical school, graduate school or one of the allied health professions. Human Virology course for senior undergraduate students. ![]() So we got that from our early tests with motion capture. You couldnt track the eyes directly, but it was the same logic because once you figured out what the muscles in the face were doing, you could infer what the eyes were doing from the muscles around them. What was interesting was that we were able to learn what the eyes were doing from the motion capture. You could keep him on model easily, with room to vary. So we could go back and forth between the two. ![]() What worked well for that was we were able to figure out a system that could be driven not only by motion capture but also by keyframe animation. And then by using the MoCap techniques on Andy, they were able to figure out what those facial expressions must have been. But whereas with Gollum we sculpted all the group of expressions by hand, with Kong they were able to codify it by building an underlying muscle system to drive the facial performance instead of having to sculpt it all. Then you can infer what expressions are being made from those groups. You can reverse engineer that by reading the patterns on someones face and figuring out what muscles activate it, pull everything into this pattern by starting with a neutral pose and going from there. The basic idea is that human muscles can only work in groups that form expressions, explains senior visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri. To achieve this breakthrough, Wetas facial capture builds on the program called Facial Animation Coding System (FACS) developed by Paul Ekman at the University of California at San Francisco. Wetas facial capture builds have brought Andy Serkis performance of Kong even further than when he played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings. You can then transfer these emotional states to the gorilla. Each point is designed to capture an expression that hes pulling. ![]() The performance capture is unique in that we arent capturing Andys facial movements but his emotional states. Its an ever amorphic, ever evolving process. So at no point do we consider the design process as a blueprint. You want to make sure that the musculature and facial expressions are complementary of the direction that the creature is going in. We wanted to install all of Andys essence into the design as well. In terms of the body, the creature enters the digital world through scanning. Peter gave us a list of all the expressions he wanted to see the face in. These were keyframe animation poses from a hoot to a scream to a snarl. We used the frame-grabber to check that the musculature was consistent with the bone structure underneath the skin, because its so easy to cheat beyond the facial points and turn it into a Looney Tune as you stretch the muscles. And we proceeded to sculpt 18 expression studies for Kong. We went through quite an interesting period utilizing frame-grabber software that you would use for stop-motion animation. We needed to make sure we delivered the expressions that Peter imagined Kong to make, asserts Richard Taylor, the head of Weta Workshop who specializes in special makeup, creatures and miniatures. Not only did the actor do extensive research but looked to Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame for inspiration, because his role was much more demanding and technically complex. Once again, as with Gollum, the director turned to actor Andy Serkis to provide the MoCap performance. Jackson was so pleased with Kong, in fact, that he made the unprecedented move of elevating Christian Rivers and Eric Leighton to animation directors. He is a gorilla, not a monster you want Kong to be sympathetic. Kong is stronger than I thought he would be, Jackson adds. His brow is cracked, his jaw broken, he has a drooping eyelid and a snaggletooth and his powerful body is scar ridden. Modeled after Snowflake, the albino gorilla from Spain, Kong evolved into a lonely, middle-aged, warrior. The greatest lesson Jackson learned from The Lord of the Rings trilogy was that the best fantastical stories are rooted in real world trappings, so he applied the same philosophy to King Kong, beginning with his new take on the legendary gorilla. The director wanted Kong to form an attachment and feel empathy for another living being for the first time. Indeed, Jackson was crucially interested in the emotional connection between the 25-foot, 8,000-pound gorilla and actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts). The scary thing about making the movie was the close-ups of Kong, Jackson admits. 14), there was never any question that Kong and the other creatures that inhabit Skull Island would be CGI. When Peter Jackson finally fulfilled his boyhood fantasy of remaking King Kong (Universal Pictures, opening Dec. Peter Jacksons love affair with King Kong has lead to his creation of this years biggest blockbuster event. ![]() Rename the 'Normal.dotm' to 'Normal.dotm_bak'. ![]() With so much emphasis on user generated data, the obvious flaw is that many movies are simply not in the database at the moment, and information contained might be inaccurate. A little less flexible than WinDVD's mouse drag zoom functions, but possibly more practical as WinDVD 9 didn't allow for widescreen to fullscreen conversion. The mouse can then be used to pan the zoomed area. You can select to zoom widescreen movies to make them fullscreen (two presets for movies with 1.85:1 and 2.35:1 AR), as well as 4x and 9x digital zoom. They are located under the "Aspect Ratio" section of the right click menu. Zooming is the same as previous versions. With all three TrueTheater options turned on, CPU usage frequently spiked above 30%, which won't bother your average Core 2 Duo CPUs, but on smaller Atom based systems, this could cause some problems. CPU usage increased to 20% with this option turned on. For people with computer monitors, it probably won't make a huge difference, but it should on larger TV type displays (although the TV itself probably also has a similar feature that may/may not work better). It's a trade-off in terms of CPU usage, but for those with large 1080p screens, it should be worth it.Īlso new is TrueTheater Motion, which now allows 24 FPS material to be output at a much more motion friendly 60 to 72 FPS, through use of interpolation (adding "in-between" frames). As noted in the "What's New" page previously, TrueTheater HD worked quite well visually as the screenshot comparison below shows, and as to CPU usage, with it turned on (and with other TrueTheater effects off), DVD playback consumed around 21% of the CPU, compared to 11% with TrueTheater HD turned off and hardware acceleration turned on (hardware acceleration has to be off for TrueTheater HD to work). Both of these new features are for DVD playback only. PowerDVD 9 corrects the situation by making this version's "main" selling point what they call TrueTheater HD and TrueTheater Motion, the former is basically their version of All2HD. In my review for PowerDVD 8, I noted that DVD playback was largely faultless, but there were no innovations such as WinDVD's HD upscaling function, All2HD. ![]() There is also an "Information" tab that will display information about your current system and technical information about the movie you are playing.
